The awesomeness cometh

I had such grand plans for blogging this week. I was gonna take it to the next level. Tutorials! Thoughtful topical posts! Other awesome stuff! But of course life has a way of tripping me up, and so it has this week. Big time.

The awesomeness is still forthcoming, just a bit delayed. Thanks so much for sticking with me!

A winner!

It's officially time for a lesson on using the interweb--I just spent an hour trying to figure out how to embed the True Random Number Generator box thingy with the results of the draw for my giveaway, to no avail!! So you'll just have to take me word for it ;)

The winner is number 362 and that's Jessi of the inspiring blog, Common Threads!

Congratulations to Jessi, and thank you to everyone who entered. I was blown away by the sheer volume of comments! A special thanks to all of you who are now following me, it's just the kick in the pants I need to create posts that
are truly valuable. With 147 followers I've really got to bring it! My goal is to add some useful features, show more of the process of my art, and finally post some tutorials.

writing folios in process

I hope everyone enjoyed May Giveaway Day as much as I did!!

Giveaway Day!

The day is finally here and I imagine many of us will be parked in front of our computers for a good part of it checking out all of the amazing things to be had. Welcome to all of you who are visiting for the first time, feel free to poke around a bit; you'll find lots of stuff about sewing, knitting, crafting, thrifting, free schooling, raising kids, and living simply in the city. Every Giveaway Day I find some amazing new blogs and rediscover some old favorites.

My very favorite part of Giveaway Day? Giving stuff away!

This year I didn't have much time beforehand to get things ready so I decided to do something a bit more personalized for the winner herself (or himself, you never know ;) The randomly chosen winner will receive a set of 6 monogram notecards and envelopes (100% post consumer recycled paper and vintage fabric letters) in a monogrammed fabric writing folio (still working on the name for these...) as well as a 6" monogram hoop. Since this will be a custom job I am happy to work with the winner to come up with the perfect colors, fabrics and fonts, too. How can you go wrong? ;)

Last Giveaway Day I was really feeling the supply giveaways so I decided to add that on to mine this time around. I've put together a little package of fabrics and notions (both old and new) for the lucky winner and will surely throw in a few things more.

And, to really turn this mutha out, I've decided to share a half yard cut of one of the widely coveted Flea Market Fancy prints. I found some during the shop hop I attended this past week and bought the rest of the bolt so I still have some for myself (and perhaps some to sell? Not sure about that yet...).

Okay, so if you'd like a chance simply leave a comment on this blog post. I'm happy to ship world wide so everyone is welcome to join in. If you'd like to throw your name into the hat twice you can leave a second comment telling me that you've become a follower of my blog, but that's certainly not mandatory. Comments will be closed and a winner chosen at random at the end of the day on Thursday, May 20 (EST).

I love Giveaway Day so much that I've also decided to hold a sale in my shop as well. From now through Thursday take 10% off your entire order in my shop; all of the details can be found once you're there.

Cheers, and Good luck!!

**Comments are now closed and a winner will be announced first thing in the morning. Thanks to everyone for joining in!

Busy week/end ahead

I woke up this morning in a panic that I had missed the sign up for Sew, Mama, Sew's Giveaway Day but thankfully my worries were in vain! I'm all signed up now and so excited for the big day, though I still have to decide what to give away... This year I've decided to give both something handmade and some supplies and fabric. I'm one of those people who much prefer giving to receiving, I have so much fun putting gifts together so I've decided to make this a mega giveaway and share the wealth of my overflowing fabric stash, too. Perhaps vintage?

past giveaways

I'll need to make some room in the fabric stacks because starting tomorrow I'll be on a three day shop hop of local (and not so local) quilt shops. Woo-hoo!

Shop Update

I've finally taken the time to list some of the items that have been ready to go for some time. This time around it's monogram cards and appliqued hoops, but over the next couple of months I'll be adding some quilts and readymade books, as well. Head on over to the shop and check it out!

And, after a long hiatus I'll be accepting orders for custom books soon. Stay tuned!

Thursday Thrifting

The mister and I have caught the thrifting bug big time--so much so that I do believe a weekly thrifting post is in order, et voilà: Thursday Thrifting!

Here are some of our sweet finds over the past few weeks...

vintage metal globe, sans base

the perfect mid-century dining table! (chairs thrifted too, in desperate need of reupholstering)

sweet vintage flat cards and really cool *empty* notebook

5 more vintage American Tourister suitcases, doubling my collection!

a lovely vintage enameled pitcher

I almost peed my pants when I saw these babies!!

the pièce de résistance: a Bernina 830!

...and I haven't even shown you any of the bikes Skye picked up, including a pretty little pair of vintage Raleigh Sports. What treasures will we find next?

p.s. Another Giveaway Day has been announced and I'll be participating again! Hmmm, what shall I give away this time...?
