knitting fever

loA few days ago the weather started getting pretty cool around here. I looove the fall and cool weather so I'm pretty psyched! The crisp air made me itch for something I haven't done for months--knitting. In one evening I whipped up a few hats for Lil and Lyr with a super easy, super quick, super cute pattern. This evening I'm starting a lace scarf for myself.
And, with impecable timing, my Hudson Valley Fiber Farm CSA share arrived this week! Skye gave me this share for Christmas last year and it's so nice to have it at long last. I love the idea of a fiber CSA, supporting a small farm and having wool from a local source. I opted to receive my skeins undyed and am looking forward to trying my hand at some dying of my own. Now to find the perfect pattern for all of my new yarn!

move over beethoven

This one was a long time coming but, I think, so worth the extra time:
And here's Tigerlily playing our very own piano. It's good to see someone playing it since it nearly killed Skye and our buddy Mike getting it up the stairs (only accomplished after another friend and a stranger off the street came to the rescue). Time for lessons, perhaps?

cool book. bad photos.

I finished this beautiful Pride and Prejudice-inspired book for a wonderful customer of mine this past week and after spending many hours perfecting its every detail apparently didn't have the sense to realize I was photographing the finished work in extremely poor light. Still, I think it's worthy of showing the outcome despite the terrible photos.
The final page is a quote from Pride and Prejudice, by Mr. Darcy, "I cannot fix on the hour, or the look, or the words, which laid the foundation. It is too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun." Stitched in Jane Austen font.

It's a very personalized book so some things may not make sense to the casual viewer but hopefully it will be a cherished keepsake for the family and their newest addition.

friday evening nature walk

As much as I love living in the city I've been feeling the country itch in a bad way and have been anxious to get out into the woods with the family. We did just that after school on Friday at a really cool little preserve along the Hudson a bit south of us. It was the first time we've been there and we'll definitely be back.

The river is so different there than it is here.

leaves turning already!
we watched this tugboat push this huge barge for a while. It was so loud!

The woods held so many interesting, beautiful things to be discovered.

Tigerlily's photos

And of course, Tigerlily made sure to point out the many, many faerie houses.
